Even though this book is very famous among people, it was my first time ever read it, and I am glad that I did. “Jonathan Livingston Seagull” has a simple plot line that in this story, a seagull is learning to fly. However, it has more meaning than this simple plot tells you. While learning how to fly, the seagull actually learns about “life” and “self-perfection.”

Even though this book is very famous among people, it was my first time ever read it, and I am glad that I did. “Jonathan Livingston Seagull” has a simple plot line that in this story, a seagull is learning to fly. However, it has more meaning than this simple plot tells you. While learning how to fly, the seagull actually learns about “life” and “self-perfection.”
However, I do not believe that escaping from what I should do now – studying for better future – can make this feeling go away. Jonathan Livingston Seagull did not give up to be a seagull, rather he tried to be a “better” seagull by concentrating on learning everything he can about flying. I think I should be able to do the same in my case. I should not just keep on thinking that this life and daily routine are boring. I should focus on what I can do with studying, school, friends, family, and other things going on in my life, and try to do my best to learn everything I possibly can about those things. As the wisest gull named Chiang with who Jonathan Livingston Seagull becomes a friend with says, I should “begin by knowing that you have already arrived...” to become whatever I want to be.

After reading “Jonathan Livingston Seagull”, I realized that I already have many great things around me, and I should be thankful about those things. I decided to stop complaining about how boring everyday is, and instead, try my hardest to become a better “seagull”.

The two topics – “life” and “self-perfection” – reminded me of my life as a student in a junior-high school. Even though I am learning subjects at school like other junior-high school students do and how to be a better student to become successful in the future, I feel like there is more than this purpose in my life. Like Jonathan Livingston Seagull feels that there should something more than just looking for foods on a daily basis, I sometime feel the same way as he does when I look around in my classroom to see other students looking tired of daily routines.
